John Holt, anchor for KSNW television, Wichita, is the scheduled speaker at Marion High School commencement ceremonies at 4 p.m. Sunday in Central Park. In event of rain, it will be held in Marion Gymnasium.

Six members of the Starfire Dance Company performed recently at the state Capitol in honor of National Dance Week. Pictured with State Rep. Duane Goossen are Ramie Bina, Meggan Silhan, Nikki Bina, Jennea Ireland, Jenny Loveless, and Tina Ybarra.

Marion Unified School District superintendent John Burke will leave in June to accept the position of superintendent in Valley Falls. Doug Huxman, principal of Florence Middle School and Marion Elementary School for two years, was selected to fill the vacancy created by Burke’s resignation.

Members of the Marion Men’s Bowling Association have selected Ed Sandwell as bowler of the year. His name will be added to the Hall of Fame plaque at MarBowl Lanes. Sandwell has been a member of the association since it was originated and has held various offices in the association and in leagues throughout his membership.

Chris Smith and Kristy Herbel were named Marion High School athletes of the year at the athletic banquet Thursday. Smith started in football, basketball, and golf his senior year. Herbel has regularly rewritten school records in volleyball, basketball, and track.
