The Marion High School class of 1990 is pictured shifting tassels after receiving diplomas Sunday. Tara Abbott was named valedictorian, and Jennifer Thole was named salutatorian. Other honor students recognized included Kristy Herbel, Calvin Hett, Christine Laue, Lorie Plenert, Chris Smith, Kristal Turner, Denice Winter, and Therese Wallman.
Wanda Makovec, Lincolnville, was killed Saturday when her 1986 Chrysler was struck by a freight train at the Tampa crossing. Frances Maloun, 15, of Marion, passenger in the car, died later at a Wichita hospital. Makovec’s daughter, June, 17, was seriously injured and is a patient in a Wichita hospital.
Bill Holmes was honored May 15 at an open house observing 40 years service to the Duckwall corporation. Jim Schoenbeck, vice president of operations for Duckwall’s, said Holmes has one of the longest employment records in company history.
Justin Grimmett, a junior, was selected as Marion High School student of the month for May by members of the faculty.
Visitors in Marion will now receive brightly colored folders with the Marion logo. The folders contain notepads, brochures, schedules of events, and coupons from businesses.
