At least one tornado passed through northern Marion County Thursday evening. The homes of Andrew David and Tom Bishop, near Durham, were destroyed and about 27 farmsteads suffered damage. The storms also caused considerable hail damage in Tampa, with many homes and businesses hit by tennis ball-size hail or larger.
Janet Marler, assistant librarian for the past 10 years at Marion City Library, has been appointed head librarian.
Close to 300 persons filled the VFW Hall for a Memorial Day noon luncheon served by the VFW Auxiliary. Hungry customers lined up outside and around the corner for the tasty ham meal. They also enjoyed the opportunity to visit with friends from near and far who were in Marion for the holiday.
Shannon Connell, 17, daughter of Mike and Cheryl Connell of Marion, will compete in the Miss Teen Kansas contest June 15-17 in Topeka. She is being sponsored by several Marion business firms.

Not one single dollar of tax money went to the pool, Williams said. About $40,000 was raised, and at least much more given as volunteer labor and donated materials.
