Paula Johnson and Chris Sprowls are pictured as they welcome customers to Marion’s newest business, Kingfisher’s Kitchen, a bakery which opened Monday in downtown Marion. Owned by Bob and Kathy Sprowls, Kingfisher’s Kitchen will serve a wide variety of flavorful fresh baked goods and offer a limited lunch menu.

Duckwall’s associate Janie Meierhoff was accepted as the first management employee to be trained in Marion since 1963 after passing an exam at the store’s Abilene headquarters Saturday. As a reserve officer, Meierhoff will travel to other locations in need of a temporary manager, but ultimately she intends to remain in Marion.

An advertisement entitled “Bearly Special Babies” reports the following were born at St. Luke Hospital in June: Joseph Sean Corona, Amanda Denise Steward, Elliot Joseph Soyez, and Colby Jackson Hett.

Brenda Bina has advanced to the Region 8 AAU championship track and field meet July 21-22 in Norman, Oklahoma. She placed second in the 800-meter run Saturday in the Missouri Valley AAU championship meet.

Trucks are lined up at grain elevators throughout Marion County as the harvest continues. The wet, cool spring weather changed with a vengeance to 100-degree-plus weather, but farmers and harvest crews continue in the fields from early morning to late at night.
