An earth-moving crew is pictured as it digs a trench for concrete footings west of St. Luke Hospital. Work started later than expected in the expansion project when crews had to be diverted to Wichita to repair storm damage there.

Ellen Darrow is pictured as she sits next to her sensuous concrete goose dressed in a saucy bikini. Darrow took the idea of dressing the lawn ornament from a series of “Mrs. Goose” stories from which she taught in the early ’40s. The ornament has been seen attired in all sorts of garments, including a robe with mortarboard and tassel at graduation time and a wedding dress and veil when her neighbor’s wedding date arrived.

Justin Grimmett, a Marion High School senior, has been selected to play on the gold team at the Randy Smithson game Sunday afternoon at El Dorado. Justin’s mother is Mary Jane Grimmett of Florence.

Lisa Buchholz, daughter of Marlin and Debbie Buchholz of Marion, was named second runner-up in the photogenic competition at the Miss America Kansas Pre-teen pageant June 30-July 1 in Topeka. One hundred thirty-eight girls, ages 8 to 13, competed in the contest. Lisa is 9.

Bluegrass group Lone Run, will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday on Central Park Stage in Marion. The group performs country gospel and folk in addition to traditional bluegrass.
