A meal and polka concert are planned for today, Wednesday, starting at 5 p.m. in Central Park. The meal was organized to welcome the Santa Fe Trail bicycle tour group. Following the meal, Alexander’s Polka Bank will perform on Central Park Stage.

Marion High School graduates Mike Helmer and Kristy Herbel will compete this weekend in all-star games at the Kansas High School Coaches Clinic at Topeka. Helmer will participate in the basketball game. Herbel will play in the volleyball match.

If you see Vickie (Klassen) Fisher driving a new pink Cadillac, don’t be surprised. She won the use of the Cadillac as a sales award of Mary Kay Cosmetics. Fisher is the daughter of Leonard and Rosalie Klassen of the Youngtown area and a graduate of Marion High School.

Tim Burke, meteorologist with the Wichita Weather Bureau, recently presented 10-year service awards to Evelyn Matz of rural Elmdale and Albert Riffel of Lincolnville, volunteer observers, who keep records and measure precipitation in their areas.
