The city of Marion may sponsor two bicycle safety/etiquette courses in coming years, commissioners announced Tuesday. Mayor Gerry Harris said two people recently complained about the number of bicycles ridden on the sidewalk, despite painted notices to walk bikes on sidewalks. “They are afraid somebody’s going to get run over, he explained.”

Marion craftsman Mike Taylor is pictured being hoisted by a telescoping crane from Wichita to place a cross on the steeple of Our Savior Lutheran Church. The church has been refurbished, painted, and expanded with a new educational wing. The cross was the final touch.

The Marching Warriors of MHS, under the direction of Mike Connell, will be among 57 bands participating Saturday in the 43rd annual KU Band Day festivities at Lawrence.

Randee Loomis and Eileen Sieger, active in the Flint Hills Girl Scout Council for years, were two of only 60, among the first in the nation to receive certification as Girl Scout instructor-of-trainers.

Members of Marion High School’s cross country team are Iris Shanklin, Angie Bina, Melanie Kraus, Amanda Janzen, Christine Barnett, Pam Kruse, Stacey Sawyer, Shane Turk, Mike Bruner, Matt Hatfield, Garret Varenhorst, Nick Voelker, Bobby Taylor, Justin Grimmett, Theron Nienstedt, Mike Childs, Marty Teufel and Matt Brenzikofer. Kris Groening is manager.
