Ed Costello, president of Tampa State Bank, hosted a free harvest hog roast and street dance Saturday night in Tampa drawing more than 800 persons from as far away as Hawaii into the laid-back little town.

Tom Herzet, rural Cedar Point, brought a one-pound seven-ounce Spanish sweet onion in to the Marion County Record before he took it home to make onion rings.

Ten horseback riders from about a dozen towns split $1,156 in cash prizes Saturday at Cottonwood Valley Saddlehorse Association’s team roping contest. First-place riders each received $176.80; second-place riders received $132.60; third-place riders received $88.40; and fourth-place received $44.20.

Darryl Ehrlich, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Ehrlich, is one of the many coordinators of the Republican national convention in Dallas this week. He will be a chauffeur and greeting VIP, as well as working the floor at the convention. Ehrlich is vice president and broker of First Pullen Commodity Service, Inc., of Dallas.
