The new Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office is nearing completion at the corner of Eisenhower Drive and Denver Street.

Virgil Elmer Healea, the only Marion law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty, will be honored at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, District of Columbia. Healea was shot in 1916, while investigating two men stopped at a service station in Marion.

The doors of the former firehouse have been removed and replaced with windows in the initial stages of renovating Marion City Building.

Marion girls’ cross-country team finished second at the 3A state championship meet Saturday in Manhattan. Team members are Melanie Kraus, Christine Barnett, Pam Kruse, Amanda Janzen, Angie Bina, and Iris Shanklin.

Sgt. Jay Sandwell, son of Margie and Kenny Sandwell of Marion, is an electronics technician in the United States Air Force. He has been in the Desert Shield operation in the Middle East for the past two months.

Marion physician Khanh Vu, M.D., has successfully completed training in neonatal resuscitation at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. This allows him to provide optimal emergency care for newborns delivered at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.
