A furious fire reduced the service shop, offices, and showroom of Marion Motor Center to a pile of rubble early Sunday morning. About eight cars, including a wrecker and three antique automobiles, were lost in the blaze. Also lost were a boat, two campers, a motorcycle, a huge inventory of spare parts, mechanic tools and a vast amount of other equipment.

Janie Meierhoff has been promoted to manager of the Duckwall’s store in Marion corporate officials announced Jan. 30.

Glenn Krispense, a senior at Marion High School, is one of 1,000 finalists in the national Jostens Foundation scholarship program. Winners will be announced in April.

Leonard Klassen left Jan. 12 on a two-week work crusade with the Fellowship of Christian Farmers. They plan to build a church in Monclova, Mexico.

Marion High School students Julie Sellers and Sara Mills earned I ratings Saturday at the regional piano festival and will participate Feb. 16 in the state competition at Friends University, Wichita.

Kathy Thomas, daughter of Virgil and Anita Weber of Marion, has been promoted to section supervisor of information systems in the engineering and information systems division of Allied Signal Aerospace Co., Kansas City.
