Pictured on the front page is St. Luke Hospital staff surgeon Stephen Cranston, M.D., who is now performing laparoscopic cholecystectomies at the hospital in Marion. The operation uses a miniature camera and surgical tools to perform gallbladder operations without the need for lengthy hospital stays.

More than 30 preschoolers, parents, and day care providers visited the Marion Fire Department April 12 to conclude Week of the Young Child activities. Day care organizations participating included Shelli Hardey’s Happy Days, Sherry Hess’ Just 4 Kids, Shawn Wunderlick’s Day-care, Tracy Carlson’s Peppermint Place, Debbie Regier’s Kountry Kids, Jo Helmer’s Joys of Childhood, and Diane Jeffrey’s Little People’s Place.

Marlin Fitzwater, White House Press Secretary, recently hosted former Marionite Dennis Navrat, his wife and daughter-in-law of South Dakota on a special “behind the scenes” tour of Washington, D.C. Navrat and Fitzwater were fraternity roommates while both were students at K-State in 1962.

Senior Matt Brenzikofer has been selected by the faculty of Marion High School as student of the month. He is the son of Robert and Ann Brenzikofer of Florence.

Mr. and Mrs. Willis Herbel of Tampa and Mr. and Mrs. Steven Krispense of Marion announce the engagement of their children, Kristi Kaye Herbel and Steven Todd Krispense. The couple will be married July 27.
