Fields of Kansas wheat are ready for harvest this week. Rain and high humidity have made for poor harvesting conditions, but area grain elevators report several loads coming in this past week. Extension agent Steve Tonn said harvest will reach full stride this week or next, even with humid conditions.

Elora Robinson of Marion and Nancy Robinson of Newton won first in the championship flight at the Halstead two-woman golf tournament June 8.

The first weekend of Marion Summerfest saw poor turnout at three separate events Saturday and Sunday. Cloudy, unseasonably chilly weather was cited as the main reason for low attendance by organizers. Rain early Saturday set a poor tone for Bluegrass Country’s performance at the Central Park stage.

Robert Meisinger, metropolitan district manager for General Motors Parts at Portland, Oregon, has been awarded an all-expense paid trip to Europe. The award is for being the top district manager in the Portland zone for GM. Meisinger is the son of Jim and Leona Meisinger of Marion.

Janet Marler, library director at Marion City Library, has completed requirements for the first part in the training program, Kansas Public Library Annual Continuing Education. The weeklong class was held on the campus at Emporia State University.
