Marion will respond to President George Bush’s suggestion that every town in America make a special effort to sponsor Fourth of July Patriotic celebrations this year to recognize the men and women who served in the Persian Gulf. A patriotic recognition program will be included during the Old Fashioned Picnic in Central Park.

Butler County Community College will soon reach an agreement for an outreach office on Main Street in Marion, Marion City Commissioners learned at the regular weekly meeting Monday. The college has submitted plans for the interior remodeling of the former TandE’s supper club building.

A firm based in Chicago, Illinois, has purchased the Santa Fe branch rail line running west from Marion in a package deal, which included about 800 miles of track across Kansas.

Marion County Sheriff Edward Davies reminds that selling, igniting, or owning fireworks is against the law in Marion County. Families hosting visitors from other counties or states should make sure their guests realize the county ban on fireworks. Only licensed displays, such as those at Marion Manor, are allowed.
