Marion Chamber of Commerce sponsored an afternoon of activities in Central Park on the Fourth of July in accordance with President George Bush’s request that all communities give returning Persian Gulf War veterans a hearty welcome on Independence Day.

Jacintha Mueller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Konecny of Pilsen, recently was appointed director of nursing education at St. Joseph’s Health Center in St. Charles, Missouri.

Hillsboro Live and Learn Extension Homemakers Unit visited Marion businesses on their annual tour June 12. Places visited included Marion Die and Fixture, Hoppyline, Marion Zoological, Flint Hills Clay Works, Flint Hills Gold, and Kingfisher’s Inn. The group also visited St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen and Country Charm at the old Canada schoolhouse on US-56.

Ethan Good, son of Bob and JoAnn Good of Marion, has graduated from Level II of the Future Astronaut Training Program at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center, Hutchinson, and the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.

Births announced in this issue included those of Louisa Redford Collett, born July 4, to Mr. and Mrs. Keith Collett of Marion and Elizabeth Ann Hudlin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hudlin of Marion, also born July 4.
