When the Farmers and Drovers National Bank began the project of resurfacing the west wall of their expanded parking lot, it was discovered that intricate marks had been placed there years ago. One of the elaborate signatures written on the wall had the date of 1909.

The E and M Café in downtown Durham closed over a year and a half ago. It re-opened this month after major remodeling and is owned and operated by Kathy Winter, wife of Wayne Winter of Durham.

Recipients of scholarships from the American Legion Auxiliary of Hillsboro are Laurie Tajchman, Marion, $250; Katrina Swan, Marion, $250; Matt Vajnar, Hillsboro, $500; and Mylene Queen, Sedgwick, $250.

Marion reserve police officer John Bezdek recently completed an 80-hour training course at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, Hutchinson. A reservist since October, Bezdek and fellow reservist Tom Wunderlick fill in on days when full-time officers Don Keazer, Garry Klose, and Harvey Sanders are away on training or off duty.

Entries in this week’s Produce Derby include two 2-pound Celebrity tomatoes entered by Mitch Gomez of Florence and two Detroit dark red beets, each tipping the scale at over 2½-pounds, entered by Mrs. John Reznicek of Lost Springs.
