Marion City commissioners on Monday awarded construction of an airport hangar to Flaming Metal Systems, Inc., Peabody. The bid is for a 30x100x14-foot hangar with three separate bays, each with a separate door.

Paige Brunner and Kacey Nickel were named Centre High School homecoming queen and king before Friday’s Eisenhower League game with Hope.

Numerous activities are planned Saturday as part of Prairy-Erth Day in Cottonwood Falls. Included is an autograph signing session with William Least Heat-Moon, author of Prairy-Erth, a book about Chase County.

Sheri Bina, daughter of Laverne and Harriet Bina of Marion, is a candidate for homecoming queen at Friends University, Wichita.

Six Marion Elementary School students will perform in Hutchinson Saturday as part of the Kansas Music Educators Association honor choir. They are Andy Albrecht, Virgil Britton, Chad Buchholz, Veletta Schneider, Jesse Versch, and Carrie Wunderlick.

Work by Triple-H Construction of a handicapped-accessible entrance is underway at Aulne United Methodist Church. In addition to ramps, the new entrance will feature an elevator, restrooms, and additional basement space.

Service awards were presented to Marion Manor employees Oct. 10. Those honored were Betty May, 5 years, and Norma Smith, 10 years.
