Alex and Jean Case are chairmen of a “Souper Bowl Eve” party planned for Jan. 25 at Marion Country Club. Others on the committee are Larry and Randee Loomis, Larry and Jolene Reiswig, Bill and Teresa Higgins, and Keith and Mary Ann Conyers.

Marion native Patrick Costello of Boise, Idaho, has been selected to become a judge, filling the vacancy caused when Judge Ralph Haley announced his retirement. Costello is the son of Ed and Mary Costello of Marion. He is a graduate of Marion High School, received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas, and a law degree from Boston University.

If the physician opens an office within the district, the person submitting the name will receive $5,000. The rest will come after the physician has been in town a year.

An article written by staff reporter Christine Laue tells that a 1989 Marion High School graduate, Phil Hanes of Florence, sped through Kansas State University in two and a half years with a 4.0 grade point average. Hanes intends to pursue a law degree at one of several prestigious law schools.
