Bill Maher, a New York resident researching the life of the Rev. Emil Kapaun, was in Marion and Pilsen April 29-30. Maher plans to write a biography of Kapaun, an Army chaplain who died in 1951 after 202 days in a prison camp during the Korean War.

Cooperative Grain and Supply of Hillsboro has purchased Pierce Oil Company in Marion. The sale became effective Friday.

Amy Linnens, senior at Marion High School, has been selected as student of the month by the faculty. She is the daughter of Barry and Linda Linnens of Florence. She plans to major in sociology at Friends University this fall.

The team of Earl Wood, Mike Wood, and Jeff Wood won the championship flight at the Marion Country Club scramble Sunday. Bill Lundy, Chris Costello, and Don Bredemeier were first in the first flight. First place team in the second flight was Mike Moore, John Harbison, and Mike O’Dell.

Brad Tice, son of Martin and Margaret Tice of Marion, has been elected president of American Students of Pharmacy for 1992-93.

The new chairlift at Aulne United Methodist Church was in constant use Sunday during dedication services. The lift was part of a $44,500 addition designed to remove architectural barriers to the sanctuary.
