Construction of the final wing to St. Luke Living Center could begin this fall if bids for the project are acceptable, Marion County Hospital District No. 1 board of directors said Thursday. Members voted unanimously to seek bids for construction of a 14-bed north wing connecting the hospital and living center.

Robert Meisinger of Tulsa, Oklahoma, has been awarded a host assignment trip to England and Scotland in recognition of his contributions to General Motors Service Parts Operations. Meisinger is the son of Jim and Leona Meisinger of Marion.

Marion Elementary School fifth graders completed inventions recently for instructors Patsy Waner and Marj Sandberg. Students designed the projects to learn problem-solving techniques. Virgil Litke of rural Marion bought an atlas at a public farm auction that is unique from any at Marion County Courthouse. The oldest atlas at the courthouse dates back to 1872 but does not show who owned land. This 1885 atlas does provide that data.

John Wheeler and Iris Shanklin were named Marion High School athletes of the year Thursday at the annual Marion Kiwanis Club athletic banquet. Named most inspirational players were Shane Klein and Iris Shanklin.
