The Board of Marion County Commissioner, meeting in regular session Monday, declared Logan Township a disaster area after hearing a special report on damage caused by the June 16 tornado that swept through that northwestern portion of the county.

Wheat fields in Marion County have been muddy, but this year’s harvest has been looking good, according to reports from grain elevators in Marion and Florence.

John Griffith, son of John and Mary Griffith of Marion, recently returned from a European tour with the 40-member Emporia State University a Cappella choir and 49 senior citizens from across the United States.

Michel Soyez, a senior at Marion High School, recently attended the Cadet Law Enforcement Academy in Salina where he earned several awards. He is the son of Brenda and Robert Soyez.

Marion Manor nursing home will celebrate its 25th year in business by hosting a celebration along with its traditional annual fireworks display on the Fourth of July.

A Mickey Mouse theme was used June 20 at a layette shower complimenting Mickey Lundy. Hosted by Margie Lundy and Cathy Lundy of Prairie Village, Gayle Wyman of Mission, and Penny Forshee of Bonner Springs, the event was held in the home of Margie Lundy.
