Marion City Commissioners on Monday granted permission for Marion-based ambulance attendants (EMTs) to conduct a house-to-house solicitation, making safety light kits available to householders. The lights go on a person’s front porch, and will blink when an ambulance is summoned. It will be a help to the ambulance driver in identifying a house where an ambulance has been called.

Former El Dorado residents Mark and Jan Gillis have opened Mark and Jan’s Main Street Café in Marion, featuring daily luncheon specials. Located at 1204 E. Main, the cafe will be open each weekday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Renee Goodin, daughter of John and Kathy Goodin of Marion, was named Tri-County Fair Queen Saturday at the Tri-County Fair in Herington. Laura Sleichter of Abilene was first attendant and Beth Jost of Burdick was second attendant.

It seemed as if Marion County Lake was the top tourist attraction in the area this past weekend. About 20 boats were on the lake Saturday, and carloads of curious people drove around it over the weekend to see the extraordinary rise from a five-inch rain early Thursday.

“Euphoria Stringband” will perform from the open air stage alongside Central Park in downtown Marion Saturday, July 25, at 7:30 p.m. The group features a variety of old-time music. A drawing for four $25 gift certificates will be held at intermission.
