Carlsons’ Grocery, Marion, will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday to celebrate their store becoming a member of the Independent Grocers Association (IGA). Marion Chamber of Commerce will serve coffee and cookies from 9:30 until 11 a.m.

Debbi Darrow has received the Direct Service Provider Award from the Kansas Division for Early Childhood, which works with disabled children from birth to school age. Darrow works with the Marion County Special Education Cooperative that provides services and coordinates assistance for families who have children facing delayed development.

Marion County EMS Director JoAnn Knak is pictured as she presented county Commissioners Leon Suderman, Linda Peterson, and Charles DeForest with the Lyle Eckhart traveling trophy, a plaque presented to Knak for her outstanding work with emergency medical services.

Ern Hett of The Copper Shed is pictured as he demonstrates the art of using a welding torch to craft attractive novelty items from bits of farm metals. Watching are visiting youth from Germany and Peggy Blackman, Marion community coordinator of the student visits.

Marion High School students are preparing for Friday when they will assist the public with various projects in Marion and Florence. Projects include spring cleaning chores, working at the county lake and Central Park, and clean-up around downtown business places.
