At a special meeting, Friday, Marion City Commissioners will discuss a grant agreement between the city and the Kansas department of Economic Development. Marion will receive about $486,000 in federal money to improve the city’s sewer system.

Marion High School has been notified that three of its seniors have been designated Commended Students in the 1985 Merit Program. Robert Brock, principal, announced that Melissa Krispense, Michael Stewart, and Stephanie Williams placed in the top five percent of over one million participants.

Seventy years of existence was observed Sept. 18 at the first meeting of the new year of Athena Study Club. Floral arrangements were presented to Mrs. David Wheeler, Mrs. Leslie Powell, and Mrs. Paul Williams, who have been members the longest, and to Mrs. Edwin Westerhaus, who was welcomed as a new member.
