Premature spring-like weather was appreciated the past week but it did create some problems. Road shoulders were unusually soft thanks to the thaw. A minor traffic jam occurred on U.S.-56 Thursday morning when a truck was pulled from mud four miles east of Hillsboro.

At the close of the first week of the Marion City Women’s Bowling Association, the Diamond X Ranch team stands in first place. Leading the doubles event is the team comprised of Sally Biehler and Lois Hayes. Sue Klassen leads the singles event and Carol Robertson tops the all events category.

Marion Elementary students were treated to a special melodrama Friday during their lunch hour. The skit, performed by sixth graders, was a part of Kansas School Lunch Week. Sweet Sue was played by Heather Hughes, Grandma and Grandpa by Christine Laue and Phil Humphries, and the hero cowboy by Eric Steward.

Ramona State Bank has purchased the former Roundup Enterprises building on Main Street in Hillsboro. The building will house the bank after its transfer from Ramona.

Dr. Robert Novak of Lost Springs has been elected president of the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association.

Judge William Clement, administrative judge of the Eighth Judicial District, presented Jean Miesse with an award Wednesday morning signifying 10 years of service. Phyllis Kreutziger also received a 10-year award, though she has served longer. The awards program recently was started to recognize continued service.
