Gerry Harris of Marion has been named athletic commissioner of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC). As KCAC Athletic Commissioner, he will be responsible for assigning and supervising officials in women’s volleyball, women’s basketball, men’s basketball, and football.

Cottonwood Valley Car Club, a group of antique and specialty automobile enthusiasts, is planning a 50- to 75-mile “Great Race” to be held in conjunction with Florence’s traditional Labor Day celebration.

Marion County Record editor Bill Meyer was elected to the executive board of the William Allen White Foundation Thursday at the annual meeting held in Lawrence. Meyer has been a trustee of the foundation for the past 10 years.

People in Marion who pay attention to basketball were probably pleased but not surprised to learn that Jami Shirley topped the women’s all-time individual scoring record for Butler County Community College last week.
