Marion County commissioners voted Monday to preserve a little bit of history. After hearing a presentation by traveling bookbinder Lester Roush of Woodlands, Texas, the commission agreed to spend $1,400 to have pages from a series of plat books — the earliest dating to 1872 — laminated and rebound.
Dr. Stephen Cranston of Newton has established Marion office hours. Tuesday was Cranston’s first day as an independent practitioner at St. Luke Medical Clinic. He joins doctors Jeff Martin and Don Hodson.
Central Park has a new look, with attractive gates and new concrete approaches. City workmen also installed buried cable to reactivate the gate lamps.
Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Classen wish to announce the upcoming marriage of their daughter, Sherry Kathryn, to Dr. James E. Bureman, currently practicing optometry with the United States Army at Fort Riley. A June 9th wedding is planned.
J. Ted Garner, 61, a former Marion chiropractor, was sentenced to life in prison by Washington County District Court Tuesday after being convicted of felony murder. Terms of his conviction will run consecutively. He will be eligible for parole after 23 years.
