Marion County residents wakened Monday morning to a chilly reminder of how erratic Kansas weather can be. Several inches of snow followed heavy weekend rains and freezing winds that left trees, and power lines, groaning beneath debilitating piles of snow.

Any way you look at it, recent construction at the corner of Fifth and Main streets in Marion is a big improvement to the city’s business district. The Jost Building, located on the former site of Schroeder Produce, has been extensively remodeled to accommodate the Enid Jost Agency for All Risk Crop Insurance and the Marion Insurance Center.

Business students from Marion High School participated in the annual Business Skills Contest held recently on the Bethel College campus in North Newton. Students participating were Mike Stewart, Brian Dannenfelser, Richard Genandt, Jeff Conyers, Bill Shirley, Jeff Burkholder, Nancy Kline, Melanie Conyers, Rochelle Mueller, Stephanie Williams, Melanie Druse, and Cindy Ellis.

Marion County Republicans gathered at the courthouse March 13 to name delegates and alternates to the party’s district and state conventions. Delegates chosen were State Representative Duane Goossen, David Crofoot, Carol Wiebe, Roger Hannaford, Marquetta Eilerts, Harold Jost, and Nell Hiebert-Boothe.
