Dennis Guilfoyle representing Rogers Production Company of Pittsburgh, Pa., told Marion Chamber of Commerce members Friday that Marion would need to begin preparations 20 weeks in advance if the community is to celebrate its 125th anniversary next year.

Marion is scheduled to have a new 24-hour convenience store before the summer is over. Workers are busy erecting the framework for the Stop N Shop going up next to Marion Motor Center on east Main Street.

Cub Scout Pack 102 held a “Space Derby” Monday night at the American Legion hall. Rockets crafted by the scouts of balsa wood were propelled down guide wires by rubber band motors. Brett Sprowls’ rocket won the best design award. Brain Padgham won first in the race, Charlie Helmer, second, and John Wheeler, third.

A chartered bus will go to Osage Beach, Mo., June 2 to see Trent Crissup perform with the Chuck Watkins show in the Ozark Jamboree. Both Crissup and Watkins are natives of the Flint Hills region. Trent is an expert fiddler and vocalist. He also is spokesman for the group.

Mary Ann’s School of Dance will present public recitals Friday and Saturday in Marion Municipal Auditorium. Participating in a “Hobos” act will be Shelly Moore, Vicki Hartley, Amy White, Tonja Jensen, and Kristi Herbel, all from Marion.
