Marion Country Club should have a new swimming pool by July 4 thanks to a three-week fund-raising campaign that netted $20,000 for its construction. John Crofoot, chairman of the club’s pool committee, said 65 donors — many of whom are not country club members— added to the fund.

Father Gerald “Jerry” Pathe, pastor of St. Mark Parish at Marion for the past 23 years, was honored Sunday afternoon on the 40th anniversary of his ordination as a priest. More than 300 parishioners, friends, and relatives gathered for the occasion.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bezdek of Loveland, Colo., announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of his daughter, Diane Kay, to Gerald Todd Carpenter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald L. Carpenter, El Dorado. The couple will be married June 30 at Marion.

Lisa Hess was named Marion High School “Outstanding Senior Musician” for 1984 at the school’s recent academic and music awards ceremony. Hess also was named outstanding female vocalist.

Eugene and Betty Just joined other members of the Peabody Plainsmen’s musical group at the centennial celebration in Hillsboro Thursday evening. They performed for a barbecue put on by Irv Schroeder Motor Company and furnished some of the pre-pageant entertainment.
