Kansas Department of Economic Development representatives met with business leaders from Marion Chamber of Commerce all day Wednesday to present their evaluation of the Marion community’s strengths and weaknesses. Among those who participated in the day-long sessions were Gerry Harris, Alex Case, Martin Tice, John Crofoot, Eloise Mueller, and Mayor Peggy Blackman.

Kevin Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Wilson of Marion, has joined Kansas Gas and Electric Co. at Wichita as a staff accountant.

Matt Wineinger of Marion is one of three Kansas FFA members who have been selected as regional winners in the proficiency award competition. Each has a chance of being selected as a national award winner at the FFA national convention in Kansas City Nov. 12. Matt, 17, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wineinger. He will now compete on the national level for the farm and homestead improvement award.

Jim Hoy and Tom Isern, authors of the popular Plains Folk column, which appears regularly in the Marion County Record, will entertain Nov. 9 at a Marion Kiwanis banquet

Marion High School FHA hosted a party Monday at the Pizza Hut in Hillsboro honoring their adviser, Pauline Ferrell, who has accepted a position as a faculty member of the Kansas State University Extension Service. She began her new position Tuesday as area home economist over 32 counties in northwest Kansas. Her office is at Colby.
