City of Marion commissioners took the time to pay attention to the achievements of fellow residents of the community Monday during their regular weekly session. They authorized congratulatory letters to be sent to Ron Wineinger, recently elected national president of the Future Farmers of America, and to the Mick Summervills, recently named American Royal Kansas Farm Family of 1983.

Bev Backhus and Tom Reid were united in marriage Oct. 22 in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tampa. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Backhus, Tampa. The groom is the son of Neva Reid, Florence, and the late Leo Reid.

Chester Morris, the smiling UPS driver from Emporia, will bring a message as an ambassador for Christ at the union Thanksgiving program Tuesday evening in Marion Municipal Auditorium.

Seven Marion High School students have been selected as members of the District VI honor choir. They are Kelley Enos, Tammy Harris, Chantal Nienstedt, Dave Hanson, Jay Sandwell, Scott Heidebrecht, and Mike Stewart.

Wayne Conyers, a native of Marion, will be an interterm professor of art at McPherson College during January, offering a non-credit workshop open to the public

The first snow of the season fell Wednesday. It started as rain, then was a snow and rain mixture most of the day. We finally had our first killing frost when the temperature went to 27 degrees Friday morning.
