Acquisition of a $140,000 X-ray machine highlights some of this year’s major improvements made at St. Luke Hospital. The hospital maintained an average residency of between 10-15 patients in its 25-bed facility during 1983. There have been 40 babies born so far this year, surgeries are up by 114 percent, and the West Wing skilled nursing wing contains 18 beds, the only designated “skilled” nursing home beds in the county.

Chester Morris, United Parcel Service representative for this area, will have a birthday Dec. 10. It has been suggested that it would be nice to shower him with birthday cards.

Marion County Commissioners were in Dallas Monday to view one of at least three asphalt recyclers they are considering to buy to assist with resurface work on local highways. Commissioners Earl Mueller, Harold Jost, and Charles DeForest took the trip at the invitation of the Murphy Machinery Company of Wichita, distributers for the RayGo soil stabilizer.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Klenda went to Wichita Monday to meet Monica Klenda at the airport as she returned from Ecuador, South America. Monica has just completed serving two years there in the Peace Corps.

The weather hasn’t been at all pleasant this week, especially over the weekend. There was freezing rain, then snow Saturday morning followed by light snow and dense fog Sunday evening.

Douglas Patry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Patry of Florence, and a 1967 graduate of Florence High School, has been appointed postmaster at Whitewater.
