Melissa and Treva Janzen had a terrific Christmas Eve. The daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Janzen of Marion were selected as winners Saturday in the Chamber of Commerce cycle drawing. Melissa, 3, was awarded a Hot Wheels tricycle, and Treva, 8, was selected to receive a 10-speed bicycle. Santa Claus paid a special visit to Marion to supervise the drawing, which was held at Duckwall’s.
This year’s winner in the Marion County Record subscription contest is Deb Shipman of Florence. She is pictured receiving her $100 gift certificated from Peggy Summerville, newspaper circulation manager. The certificate may be exchanged, like cash, at any store.
A major winter storm hit this week. Temperatures were 10 to 12 degrees below zero for over a week and snowdrifts closed many roads and driveways. Many records were broken with temperatures below zero. The weathermen are predicting the same for this week.
Layne Reusser of Hillsboro has been awarded the James J. Ryan Scholarship at the University of Kansas Medical School. Reusser is a second year medical student.
City of Marion employees can look forward to prospects of bigger paychecks in 1984. There was considerable discussion on the matter at the regular meeting of the commission Monday afternoon. Several options were discussed with a final vote of a $50 monthly raise adopted
