2 win $1,000 scholarships at Florence alumni banquet

New graduates Camille Christensen and Katie Maag received $1,000 scholarships May 23 at the 113th annual Florence alumni banquet.

A total of 147 alumni, teachers and guests from the classes of 1933 through 2009 attended.

Classes from 50, 55, 60, and 65 years ago were honored at the head table. Graduates from 20, 35, 40, and 45 years ago also were recognized.

Alumni traveled from Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Washington, in addition to Kansas, to attend the event at Florence Gymnasium.

Mike Robinson, class of 1967, was master of ceremonies. Les Allison, class of 1963, gave the invocation. Camille Christensen, class of 2009, gave the senior response.

Jeff Prichett on guitar and Jake Tanner entertained with a toe-tapping, hand-clapping program entitled “Fiddlin’ Sensations.” Arletha’s Catering of Burns provided the meal.

The 114th reunion is being planned for next May.
