JAN. 9, 1985

One of Marion’s oldest and financially sound businesses was sold effective Jan. 1, 1985. Slusser Drilling Co. was acquired by Gear Petroleum Co., Inc. of Wichita. It was in the summer of 1940 that the business was started in Marion County by the late W.H. Slusser and his sons, Alden, Blaine, and Bill.

City employees who worked long hours following the Dec. 13 ice storm were treated Friday evening to a family-style chicken dinner at Kingfisher’s Inn. City employees and their wives who attended were Junior Bredemeier, Jim Bridges, Merle Bruner, Bob Hoffman, Bob Matz, Leroy Roberts, Harvey Sanders, and Bob Schmidt. Also attending were single employees Bill Lucas, Tony Winter, and Frank Werner.

Ten members of Marion Kiwanis Club were recognized Monday for their perfect attendance during the past year. Awards were given to Roger Hannaford III, James Fruechting, Larry Reiswig, Gene Winkler, Bob Brookens, Larry Loomis, Leland Heidebrecht, Gerry Harris, Bud Hannaford, and Alex Case.
