A request for almost $73,000 from the Marion County Lake improvement district caught county commissioners off guard Monday. The request was to develop a treated water distribution system for homes at the lake. The money is one-third the total cost; $400,000 will be sought through a community development block grant.

Marion’s annual Spring Fling sidewalk sale and community-wide garage sale will be May 1.

Florence Middle School’s eighth grade Scholars Bowl team won the Cottonwood Valley Junior League championship Thursday. Team members Eliza Bennett, Bryan Bombardier, Chris Bowers, Courtney Goering, and Breanne Moore went undefeated.

Lightning struck a tree Sunday morning in Jim Helfer’s yard at Marion County Lake. Sap in the green tree exploded, shattering and seriously damaging new vinyl siding on Jack Applegate’s home next door.

Centre High School students Ramie Bina, Jennea Falen, Danelle Hanschu, Russ Mueller, and Meggan Silhan and have returned from Close-Up Kansas, an intensive weeklong study of state government.

Four gifted education students recently from Marion County served as legislative pages for State Rep. Duane Goossen. Ryan Bartel, Bryan Bombardier, Nathan Collett, and Michael Isaac were pages March 23 in the House of Representatives.
