Marion Chamber of Commerce will open a downtown office with a paid secretary. That decision was reached Friday night at a meeting at Kingfisher’s Inn.
In what must surely be the last entry of the Marion County Record’s 1974 “produce derby,” Frank Richmond of rural Marion brought in a 7 pound 4 ounce turnip. That was a big one, the fitting climax to a bumper crop.
Ed Costello made an “ace” last Sunday at Marion Country Club. He accomplished the hole-in-one on number eight green in 47 degree weather. Al Bernhardt and Warren Woerz witnessed the event.
The Centre Cougars walked away with top honors Saturday at the first annual Marion High School debate tournament. The winning team was made up of Collette Collett and David Nelson.
The former home of the late Clara Duncan, left in her will to the hospital district, sold Monday to Carl Cyr of Florence for $17,000.
