The committee in charge of raising funds to restore the old Elgin Hotel into a modern apartment building has been working hard and is meeting with a great deal of enthusiasm and success.
Sixth grade students at Marion Elementary School took an educational field trip to a drilling site on the Boettcher Lease northeast of Marion Monday afternoon. Ed Costello, Tampa banker and attorney, accompanied the students and acted as a guide. The drilling foreman, D.K. George, explained the operations.
Members of 20th Century Club and their husbands took a trip into the past along the Santa Fe Trail Oct. 19. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Case Jr. were the wagon masters and narrators. The day was completed with a wiener roast in a box canyon northwest of Tampa, which had been used by cattle drivers on the Chisholm Trail on their drive to Abilene.
Mrs. Roger Hannaford and Mrs. Bill Pickering attended a Bicentennial conference Oct. 16 and 17 at Salina.
The 1975 football homecoming celebration was held at Centre Oct. 17. Connie Kerbs, senior, was crowned queen. She was escorted by senior Joe Nowak. The other four candidates for queen were Donna Nelson, Diane Noone, Marie Key, and Konnie Erickson.
A tour sponsored by the Marion Chamber of Commerce took 18 people to Marquette and Lindsborg Thursday to look at storefronts and downtown remodeling plans.
