Two houses on North Freeborn being built by Gerry Harris will be completed soon if complications with sewer hook-ups can be solved. The house are among several built by Harris and will help to alleviate the housing shortage in Marion—a project of Marion’s PRIDE program.

Marion Lake led all Kansas Corps of Engineer lakes in attendance during the first six months of 1975 with 429,200 visitors.

The Marion women’s softball team went undefeated in league play and garnered second place honors in the tournament at Herington. Members of the team are Cheryl Break, Janice Bowers, Carol Colburn, Lori Schmidtberger, Sandy Marler, Denice Bina, Cindy Friesen, Marty Beaston, Debbie Enos, and Joni Kroupa. The team is coached by John Young and managed by Harold Bowers.

Rowena Olsen has been named head librarian at McPherson College, succeeding Virginia Harris, who retired after 31 years at McPherson.

John Darting entered “Siamese twin” cucumbers in the Marion County Record produce derby last week. This week saw Enos Bezdek come in with “triplet” cucumbers grown from the same stem. Who’ll make it four?

Merle Douglas caught a 46-pound flathead catfish Friday night at Cottonwood Falls. It is said to be the largest fish caught there during the past three years. Merle caught the flathead on a rod and reel, using goldfish for bait.
