The American Revolution Bicentennial Administration this week notified Congressman Garner Shriver of Kansas that the city of Marion has officially been recognized as a Bicentennial Community.

Postal service will be curtailed a bit more starting about Oct. 5. There will be no Sunday mail service in or out of Marion after that date, according to Ray Vinduska, postmaster.

The winner of the Produce Derby this week has to be a giant zucchini squash brought in by Mrs. Art Hett of Marion. It was 19 inches long and weighed over 8½ pounds.

William Ellington, historian for the City of Wichita, has been spending a great deal of time in Marion and Marion County lately gathering information about early settlers from this area who helped develop Wichita.

A team of Explorer Scouts from Marion won eighth place in the annual 120-mile canoe race down the White River in Arkansas Aug. 6 through 9. The team was comprised of Don Smith, Daryl Enos, Tim Zerger, and Jim Koslowsky.

A party Saturday honored the 5th birthday of Carol Laue. Guests were Robin and Timmy Summervill, Christopher Blackman, Stephanie Summerville, Lucy and Lillie Guerra, Christine Laue, Patrick and Shelli Bernhardt, Danny McCauley of Walton, and Laurie Bauch of Vassar.
