The Tulsa District office of the U.S. Army Corps of engineers began advertising for bids Monday for a major portion of the construction on the Marion Floor Control Project. Bids will be opened Dec. 4. Construction will consist of the diversion channel, levy, road crossings, drainage ditches and drainage structures.

Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Christensen returned last week from another overseas jaunt, spending eight days in Switzerland. Lynn and Wilma won the trip from the Whirlpool Corporation for having sold over their quota of appliances.

The Marion Investment Club, an organization of 15 local individuals, has pledged $45,000 to purchase bonds for the remodeling of the old Elgin Hotel into a modern apartment complex.

Work is well underway at Marion Country Club constructing the new grass green golf course. Money for the project was raised by voluntary donations.

Vickie Klassen and Marvin Fisher were married at 7 o’clock Oct. 11 in Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Klassen, Marion, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fisher, Kalona, Iowa.

Derrick Penner, 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Rolf Penner of Florence, grew a radish “as big as a beet” in his garden, perhaps the last of this year’s produce derby. Derrick also had onions, potatoes, beets, lettuce and other things in his garden.
