Fire burned two homes to the ground in the Marion community this week. Mr. and Mrs. Edson Childs lost their home of 21 years and Ed Broz, Marion County commissioner, lost the farm house 15 miles northeast of Marion where he had lived since he was three years old.

Dan Glickman, Wichita attorney and president of the school board there, announced his candidacy for congress today in Marion. The announcement was made at 8 a.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Costello and is the first of such announcements being made Wednesday.

Charles DeForest of Peabody was named chairman of the Marion County commissioners at the regular session held Monday. The selection was unanimous with the motion made by Commissioner M.P. Thompson, and seconded by Commissioner Ed Broz.

Debbi Enos is escaping the chilly January winds of Kansas. She’s on tour in Puerto Rico with the McPherson College gospel octet. Debbie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Enos of Marion.

The five candidates for Centre homecoming queen are Seniors Diana Noone and Janelle Poppe, Junior Monica Klenda, and Sophomores Konnie Erickson and Cathy Madden. King candidates are Seniors Joe Nowak and Doug Svitak and Juniors Alan Bina, John Holub, and John Nowak.
