Dr. Arthur Rohn, chairman of the department of anthropology, Wichita State University, and Dr. Waldo Wedel of the Smithsonian Institution are heading-up a crew in search of evidence of earlier peoples in the land which will be covered by Marion flood control dike. Those working north of Marion figure that the whole area in the bend of the Cottonwood River, near the beginning of the dike, was a living area for North American Indians from the 1500s to the 1700s. It is reasonable to believe that there was a village, at least a number of people, close by. However, the excavation is done only in the area that will be covered by the levee.

A United States Air Force Strategic Air Command (SAC) located two miles west of Burns at the first of the year and has been occupied for about two months, tracing bombing planes and measuring the degree of accuracy on simulated targets.

Brad Heerey of Marion, a junior, was selected for the mythical Cottonwood Valley League all-star basketball first team this week. Randy Robertson, Marion senior, was selected for the honorable mention team.

Members of Cadette Girl Scout Troop 66 visited the American Freedom Train in Wichita March 21. Scouts attending were Cindy Bernhardt, Ann and Jan Bryant, Gerry Ehrlich, Greta and Gena Helmer, Lori Hett, and Lisa Wilson. Kim Warnica, another Cadette, joined the group later with her family.
