The Bicentennial Wagon Train will cross Marion County within two weeks. It will be at Hillsboro and then camp overnight at Tampa on Thursday, April 22. The wagons will then move on east toward Pennsylvania.

Marion USD 408 board of education, in special session Tuesday night, made an offer to purchase the Hollar property, which borders Marion High School. Board members state the property should be purchased now, as it has been offered for sale. The property had been offered to the board for $24,000. The board has made a counter offer of $19,000. The property runs within three feet alongside the high school building.

A big red fire truck, bright and gleaming with chrome, was stolen Tuesday night from its garage in Walton. The fire truck sat in Lynn’s Truck and Tractor sales lot in Marion all day Wednesday and was not discovered until Thursday morning. It is thought the truck was taken by a thief who had abandoned a car near Walton that had been stolen earlier that day in Wichita.

Coterie Club celebrated its 40th anniversary April 5 at the home of Mrs. Gail Merrill. Mrs. Martin Jantz was assistant hostess.

Among contestants who will appear at the Marion County Spelling Bee today are Becky Vinduska, Paul Loney, and Jon Wiebe of the 8th, 7th, and 6th grades respectively. Their alternates are Kelly Bartlett, Greg Boyle, and Cindy Heerey.
