Fred Moffitt, former postmaster at Tampa, was the guest speaker at Marion Kiwanis Club on Monday. He invited all Marionites to attend the big Bicentennial Wagon Train visit to Tampa on Thursday.

A carpenter uncovered some historical information this week while working on the renovation project at Marion’s Stone School. He uncovered the original blackboards in the building, dating back to 1873. Several years ago the old slate boards were removed, made of thick black slate, and at that time it was thought they were the original blackboards—but these are the original discovered under a layer of plaster. They are truly black board, boards painted black.

The popular musical production “Sound of Music” will be presented in Marion twice next week in Marion Municipal Auditorium. The highly acclaimed show will be presented by the music department of Marion High School, directed by Jeff Brewer. The cast features Cheryl Robinson as Maria, David Colburn as Captain Von Trapp, Marsha Jackson as Elsa Schraeder, Brook Beaston as Max Daetwiler, and Betsy Bowers as the Mother Superior.

Florence, with a gain of 98, leads towns in the county in population increase. Peabody is next with 76.

Sherie Christensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Christensen of Marion and a senior at Fort Hays State College, has been named as one of five dietetics interns at Oklahoma State University.
