Van Anderson and his crew of men started work this week on the Elgin House apartment complex. First step was to gut the former hotel building. This has been a PRIDE project for four years, and with the work underway, it gives a great deal of satisfaction to the PRIDE committee.

The old bell at Hill School has been mounted in a permanent memorial, complete with benches on either side. The memorial bell stand is constructed of stone, to match the 102-year-old building. Shown looking at the bell are Shelly Cowan, Randy Robertson, Mike Classen, and Dave Blanding.

The Marion horseshoe team is off to a good start. This is its 10th year of competition in the Mid-Kansas League. Members are B.C. McCarty, Henry Klein, Tip McFadden, Ernest Meierhoff, Reinhart Steinle, Rex Seibel, and Dr. Ted Garner.

Leann Snelling celebrated her ninth birthday Friday by inviting several friends to her home after school. Those invited were Michelle Bina, Julie Gooding, Sherri Winkler, Teresa Wynn, and Sherry Olsen.

The Florence Junior High freshman class will present the stage play, “The Wizard of Oz,” Friday, May 15. Renda Thompson will play the part of Dorothy with Bill Hoch as the scarecrow. Doug Heerey will portray the tin woodman and Jay Smith will be the cowardly lion. Other parts will be played by Jandee Smith, Laurie Laubhan, Kevin Wilson, Janelle Bowers, Casey Case, and many others.
