The belfry at Marion’s old Stone Hill School is getting a face-lift, new hat, and new glasses. There’s only one complaint, and that comes for the pigeons. Enclosure of the belfry with thick windows has caused the birds to seek shelters elsewhere. Which, of course, was the purpose.

Men and machinery are busy at the task of constructing the huge flood control ditch and dike around the west side of Marion. Heave machinery attracts curious onlookers daily, who marvel at the speed of the operation.

Garry Vogel, Jack Richmond, and Randy Richmond are pictured with a string of channel catfish caught Saturday at Marion Cove at the federal reservoir, Marion Lake. The fish average better than five pounds each.

Robert Meisinger of Beaverton, Ore., son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Meisinger of Marion, has been promoted to District Manager of General Motors covering parts of Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.

Rhonda Richmond spent Sunday at Olathe practicing with the state Drum and Bugle Corps, of which she is a member. The corps will go on tour this summer, performing for many activities in several states.

Patti Kjellin, bride-elect of Daryl Enos, was honored with a “come and go” bridal shower Sunday afternoon in the fellowship hall of Eastmoor United Methodist Church. Hostesses were Mrs. Edward Hein, Mrs. Gerald Kline, Mrs. Martin Jantz, Mrs. Richard Meisinger, and Mrs. Jack Taylor.
