The Marion County Courthouse and Marion’s Hill Grade School have been placed on the National Register of Historical Places in Washington, D.C., according to information received from Congressman Garner Shriver this week. The Hill School was constructed in 1873 and the courthouse in 1906. Both are examples of stalwart stone architecture.

Stone Prairie, five miles southwest of Marion, was the setting last week for the annual national conference of the Movement for a New Society. Movement for a New Society is a group of women, men, and children who share a common vision of a new social, political and economic democracy. A total of 70 people, 55 adults and 15 children were involved in the conference.

Over 500 horses, covered wagons, buggies, carts, antique cars, floats, bicycles and marching bands made a very impressive sight Saturday as the rodeo parade wound its way from Swope Park in Cottonwood Falls to the rodeo grounds in Strong City.

Sgt. Jack Adams, formerly of Marion, will graduate Thursday from the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville, Ky. Sgt. Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Adams, was one of 59 law enforcement officers from throughout the nation who took the course.

Featured in this week’s “Personality Profile” is Helen Loveless, retired physical therapist, now living at the Marion County Lake.
