While people of the community were resting Sunday afternoon and while they slept Sunday night, men of the city, county, and state crews were busy at work clearing away the eight-inch accumulation of snow that fell that day.

A letter of resignation from popular vocal music teacher, Kenneth Forsyth, was read at Monday night’s board of education meeting. Forsyth has accepted a position at Salina South High School for next year.

The town of Florence will honor Dr. John Slifer Saturday with an open house, followed by a potluck supper and program, in recognition of his 40th year of service to that community.

The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, “Oklahoma,” will be presented March 20 by students at Florence Junior High. Aunt Eller will be played by Molly Ferrell, Curly by Randy Just, and Laurey by Deana Forsyth.

Brian Truog, son of Pastor and Mrs. Otto Truog of Lincolnville, has been selected for appointment to the Air Force Academy.
