District Judge A.B. Fletcher was honored at a farewell coffee and dinner on Tuesday of last week. Judge Fletcher has been appointed Chief Judge of the Military Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C. Members of the Marion County Bar attending were Ed Costello, Steve Johnson, D.W. Wheeler, Gaylord Maples, David Wheeler, Pat Westerhaus, Dave Egan, John Johnson, Roger Morse and Dean Batt. Also present was retired Judge Walter E. Hembrow of Council Grove.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Fruechting greeted the public at an open house Friday and Saturday as new owners of Marion Hardware and Gifts. The Fruechtings recently purchased the popular Marion store from Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bernhardt who had owned and operated it for 19 years.

Jack Hartman, head basketball coach at Kansas State University will be the speaker at the annual Marion Kiwanis Club-sponsored Athletic banquet May 1.

Mike Ehrlich took first and third place spring yearling Polled Hereford heifer at the Quality Beef Show in Marysville April 12. He also showed the fourth place summer yearling Polled Hereford heifer and seventh place exotic steer. Mike’s brother, Gary, showed the eighth place light weight exotic steer and seventh place Hereford steer and won reserve champion honors for showmanship.
